Google recently announced some exciting new updates for Android 15 and Wear OS 5 during its developer sessions. One of the key updates is the introduction of a single-tap sign-in process for Android 15. This means that instead of having to go through two separate screens to select an account and then provide a biometric prompt, users will now be able to do it all on a single screen. This streamlined process will make it much more convenient for users to log in using their face, fingerprint, or any other screen unlocking method.
Autofill Integration
In addition to the improved sign-in process, Autofill will now display Credential Manager results in Gboard. This means that users will be able to easily access passwords, passkeys, and Sign in with Google directly from Gboard. This integration will make it even easier for users to fill in login information quickly and securely.
Another exciting update is the introduction of a new “Restore” passkey feature for phones and tablets. This feature will allow users to save a restore key to Credential Manager, which is then stored locally on the device. If cloud backups are enabled, the restore key can be automatically transferred to a new device. This means that users will no longer have to go through the hassle of logging into each app individually when they switch to a new device.
Passkey support is also coming to Wear OS 5 in a quarterly platform release. This means that users will be able to use passkeys, passwords, or Sign in with Google directly from their wrist. Google has also mentioned that this capability will work with third-party password managers, such as Dashlane.
The new updates for Android 15 and Wear OS 5 bring a host of exciting features that will enhance the user experience. From a streamlined sign-in process to easier app login recovery and passkey support on Wear OS, these updates showcase Google’s commitment to providing a seamless and secure user experience for its customers.
