Nintendo, a major player in the gaming industry, has not been actively involved in Summer Game Fest according to the event’s creator Geoff Keighley. In a recent Q&A session, Keighley expressed his desire for Nintendo to participate in the event in the future. While Keighley acknowledged the good relationships that Summer Game Fest has maintained with “Microsoft and PlayStation,” he pointed out the lack of history with Nintendo. Keighley stated, “Never really had Nintendo be a big part of Summer Game Fest yet, we always hope that it’ll be the right year for them to come in and get involved, but it hasn’t happened yet.”
Keighley also mentioned that he understands that each company operates according to its “own playbook and plan,” especially during a busy time of year. He emphasized the vast number of games released and the limitations of covering everything during one event. Keighley highlighted the importance of spreading out announcements across different platforms to give each company the opportunity to shine. He described Summer Game Fest as an evolving landscape that offers a prolonged opportunity for companies to make announcements.
Nintendo has confirmed that a Direct showcase will take place in June 2024, focusing on software for the Switch in the latter half of the year. Additionally, a Switch “successor” announcement is expected during this fiscal year. Despite these exciting developments, Keighley has advised fans to manage their expectations for the event. He suggested that Sora’s next adventure may not be part of this year’s showcase, tempering expectations for potential surprises.
Given Nintendo’s prominence in the gaming industry and the anticipation surrounding its upcoming events, it is understandable why Geoff Keighley is hopeful for the company’s involvement in Summer Game Fest. Nintendo’s unique games and loyal fan base could bring an added level of excitement to the event. By participating in Summer Game Fest, Nintendo would have the opportunity to showcase its newest releases and generate buzz among gamers worldwide.
While Nintendo has not been actively involved in Summer Game Fest in the past, there is a strong case for the company to participate in future events. Geoff Keighley’s desire to see Nintendo join the lineup reflects the potential for exciting collaborations and announcements that could benefit both Nintendo and the gaming community as a whole. As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, having Nintendo on board for Summer Game Fest could further elevate the event and provide fans with memorable gaming experiences.
