Recently, Apple made the decision to approve UTM SE, an app that emulates a computer to run classic software and games. This approval comes after the app was initially rejected by Apple, preventing it from being notarized for third-party app stores in the European Union. The app is now available for free on iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS.

Initially, the developer of UTM SE expressed disappointment after Apple’s rejection of the app in June, stating that it was not worth further efforts as it provided a “subpar experience.” However, the developer later thanked the AltStore team and another developer for their assistance in getting the app approved.

UTM SE, like other emulators on the App Store, comes with limitations. It does not include any operating systems upon installation. However, the app provides links to UTM’s website, offering guides for emulating operating systems from Windows XP to Windows 11, as well as downloads of pre-built virtual Linux machines. Additionally, Mac OS 9.2.1 and DOS are among the operating systems listed on the UTM SE App Store page.

According to the App Store description, UTM SE is a PC emulator designed to enable users to run classic software and old-school games. The app aims to provide a platform for users to experience nostalgia by running older programs and games on modern devices.

The approval of UTM SE by Apple marks a significant development for users interested in running classic software and games on their devices. Despite initial setbacks, the app’s availability on iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS opens up new possibilities for users seeking to explore the world of retro computing.
