Microsoft recently announced a major update for Skype that will make the platform ad-free. According to Skype product manager Irene Namuganyi, this update aims to provide users with a smoother and more enjoyable experience by removing all ads from Skype channels and the entire platform. This means that users will no longer see ads in the main chat interface or in the channels section.

Microsoft stated that this decision was driven by user feedback regarding the presence of ads in Skype. By eliminating ad distractions, Microsoft hopes to focus on enhancing the chat experience and making Skype more user-friendly. While the “today” section of Skype will remain, powered by MSN, users have the option to disable it in the Settings if they choose to do so.

Along with the ad removal, Microsoft is also introducing new features to enhance the user experience on Skype. AI image creation tools will be improved on Skype for Windows and macOS, allowing users to access the AI image creator within chat windows and expand AI-generated images with a simple click. Additionally, Microsoft has made UI enhancements and improved the image creator’s integration with Apple’s macOS design.

OneAuth integration is also being introduced to Skype for iOS, enabling users to sign into the app automatically if they are already using another Microsoft app. For users experiencing issues sending photos or videos over 5G, Microsoft has addressed this bug in the upcoming update, which will be released in the coming days.

As Microsoft continues to listen to user feedback and make enhancements to Skype, users can expect a more ad-free and user-friendly experience on the platform. The focus on providing a cleaner and smoother experience reinforces Microsoft’s commitment to improving its products based on user input.
