Elon Musk’s much-anticipated “conversation” with former President Donald Trump did not go as smoothly as planned. The interview, which was set to take place on X Spaces at 8 PM ET on Monday night, encountered immediate technical difficulties. In fact, it did not begin until 42 minutes later, leaving many attendees frustrated and disappointed.
False Claims of a DDOS Attack
Musk initially claimed that the reason for the delay was a massive DDOS attack on X Spaces, preventing the conversation from proceeding as scheduled. However, it was later revealed that there was no actual denial-of-service attack on the platform. In fact, a source within the company confirmed that Musk’s claims were likely false, with another X staffer suggesting that there was a high probability of Elon lying about the attack.
Following the failed start and false claims of a DDOS attack, Musk took to X Spaces to explain that the platform had been tested with 8 million concurrent listeners the day before the interview. Despite this, when the interview finally commenced, there were only 915,000 people tuning in, raising questions about the accuracy of Musk’s test results and the legitimacy of his claims.
As the interview finally got underway around 8:40 PM ET, Musk reiterated his accusation of a DDOS attack, suggesting that there was significant opposition to people hearing what President Trump had to say. This continued assertion of a cyber attack further added to the confusion and skepticism surrounding the entire situation.
This botched interview brought to mind another incident on X Spaces involving Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s announcement of running for president in 2023, which also faced technical difficulties at the start. Musk had blamed overloaded servers for the issues during DeSantis’s announcement, highlighting a pattern of technical mishaps on the platform.
Elon Musk’s interview with former President Donald Trump was marred by technical difficulties, false claims of a DDOS attack, and unreliable test results. The chaotic start to the conversation left many questioning the validity of Musk’s statements and the overall reliability of X Spaces as a platform for hosting such high-profile events.
