As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, there’s nothing better than curling up with some great eShop-exclusive games on your Nintendo Switch. August brought us a slew of fantastic releases, with 11 games scoring 7/10 and above. While Emio – The Smiling Man may have been the headliner, there were plenty of other gems that caught our attention.

Honourable Mentions

Even though they didn’t make our top three, there were some standout titles that deserve a mention. The Castlevania Dominus Collection was a huge surprise during the Partner Showcase, offering players the chance to enjoy Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia on their Switch. The addition of Haunted Castle and a re-imagined version made this collection a must-have, earning it a solid 9/10.

Another standout title was SteamWorld Heist II, a sequel that built upon its predecessor with new mechanics and a big open sea to explore. With its humor, personality, and visual flair, this game charmed us and earned an 8/10 in our review.

And let’s not forget Thank Goodness You’re Here! This uniquely British game had us in stitches with its vulgarity, accents, and chaotic gameplay. Clocking in at just a few hours long, it was our top pick for August with a well-deserved 9/10 rating.

With September looming ahead, there’s no shortage of exciting titles on the horizon. But let’s not forget the hidden gems that may have slipped under our radar in August. If there’s a game you feel deserves recognition, now’s your chance to shout it out and let us know!

While we may have missed out on reviewing some titles like Pizza Tower, there’s still plenty of shadow drops worth exploring. Make sure to cast your vote for your favorite game from our picks and share your thoughts on the ones we may have overlooked.

At the end of each month, the Nintendo Life staff come together to vote on their top eShop titles based on the games selected by the editorial team. To qualify, these games must have been released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch eShop and reviewed by Nintendo Life. Staff members vote for their top three picks, assigning points to each choice to determine the overall winners of the month.

As we wrap up August and prepare for a new month filled with exciting releases, it’s clear that the eShop continues to be a treasure trove of wonderful games waiting to be discovered. Let’s keep our Joy-Cons charged and our game libraries growing as we dive into the world of eShop gaming!
