The recent release of Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm has not been well received by fans of the co-op roguelite genre. The game currently holds a rating of 79% ‘mostly negative’ on Steam, indicating a significant level of dissatisfaction among players. The chief complaints seem to revolve around the abundance of bugs that have plagued the DLC, causing many of the base game’s core systems to malfunction.
Known Issues
Gearbox, the company that acquired Risk Of Rain from Hopoo Games in 2022, has acknowledged the widespread issues and has published a blog listing the known problems they are working to address. One of the problematic issues mentioned is a boss named Mithrix becoming invincible, which was apparently not an intentional design choice. Additionally, there is an amusing bug that allowed players to get stuck while “smelling the flowers.”
The co-creator of Risk of Rain 2, Duncan Drummond, expressed a bittersweet sentiment about the situation on Xitter. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by both fans and developers in light of the DLC’s rocky launch. Despite the challenges, Drummond maintains a sense of optimism about Gearbox’s commitment to fixing the issues and listening to player feedback.
Jeffrey Hunt, the lead programmer, co-designer, and concept artist of ROR2, also weighed in on the situation. He praised the efforts of the team working on the DLC within the constraints of time and resources, but lamented the rushed changes that have compromised their original work.
Randolph P. Itchford, a representative from Gearbox, reassured fans on Xitter that the team was actively working to address and rectify the issues with the game. Despite the challenges faced during the launch of Seekers of the Storm, Gearbox has generally received positive feedback from the player base in the past, particularly after the addition of free content such as lizards in May.
The release of Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm has been tumultuous, with widespread criticism from players due to numerous bugs and technical issues. While there is disappointment among the fans and developers alike, there is a sense of optimism that Gearbox will address the issues and improve the overall gaming experience. The resilience and dedication of the development team will be crucial in overcoming the challenges presented by the release of this DLC.
