As Apex Legends Season 21: Upheaval approaches, players are eagerly anticipating the introduction of a new Legend, as well as a variety of significant changes to the game. Scheduled to go live on Tuesday, May 7 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET, Season 21 promises to be a game-changer for fans of the popular battle royale game.
Season 21’s standout feature is the addition of Alter, a mysterious and dimension-hopping new character described by Respawn as a “villain.” Trained in combat by a secretive organization, Alter’s background remains shrouded in mystery. Her episode of Stories From The Outlands showcases her penchant for fabricating elaborate lies and half-truths about her past, leaving players to decipher the truth behind her enigmatic persona.
Despite the ambiguity surrounding her past, Alter’s in-game abilities are nothing short of impressive. Fluent in Cantonese, Alter possesses a unique skill set that adds a fresh dynamic to the Apex Games. However, it is her fixation on Horizon, as opposed to a genuine relationship, that sets the stage for potentially world-shattering events in Season 21.
Season 21 also marks the return of Solos Mode, much to the delight of Apex Legends players. Previously thought to be gone for good, Solos Mode will replace Duos Mode for the first six weeks of the season. With new features such as fully-kitted weapons and Respawn Tokens, this iteration of Solos Mode is set to offer players a fresh and exciting gameplay experience.
In addition to new Legends and game modes, Season 21 brings a much-needed makeover to the Broken Moon map. The centerpiece POI, Promenade, is being replaced by a new location called Quarantine Zone. This revamp aims to address loot distribution issues and improve squad rotations, all while introducing mutated foliage and a new skybox to reflect recent catastrophic events on the moon.
Not to be outdone, Season 21 also features a reworking of Legend abilities, with Newcastle’s Castle Wall receiving a significant upgrade. Developers have observed player behavior and decided to enhance the Castle Wall’s ability to block both bullets and grenades, offering Newcastle players improved defensive capabilities. Additionally, Legends like Catalyst and Crypto are set to receive buffs this season, while minor tweaks are planned for Bloodhound, Fuse, and Octane.
Apex Legends Season 21: Upheaval is shaping up to be a transformative season for the game. With the introduction of Alter, the return of Solos Mode, a map revamp, and changes to Legend abilities, players can look forward to an exciting and dynamic gameplay experience. As the season unfolds, it will be interesting to see how these new additions and alterations impact the Apex Games and the overall player experience.
