PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, known for inspiring Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode, is now taking a page out of Fortnite’s playbook by bringing back its original map, Erangel. The return to Erangel, now called Erangel Classic, is a nostalgic trip back to the game’s roots. Just like Fortnite’s Season OG, PUBG is resurrecting the original map layout and locations that were lost in subsequent updates.

Erangel Classic not only reintroduces the classic map but also brings back various gameplay elements that were present in the game’s earlier days. The update includes rebalanced weapons with reduced recoil, a longer time to knock down enemies, reintroduction of bench weapons, and the return of weather conditions like fog and rain. Additionally, the game’s user interface has been tweaked to give it a “vintage” feel with old school map, minimap, and fonts.

In addition to the nostalgic elements, Erangel Classic introduces new features such as the Tommy Gun appearing in care packages and the ability to grab clothes and helmets from the floor. These additions add a fresh twist to the classic map and enhance the gameplay experience for players.

Erangel Classic will be available for a limited time, replacing the latest version of the map for two weeks from May 14th to May 28th. Players can access the classic map by entering a Normal Match during the event period. It will be interesting to see how players respond to the return of the original map and the nostalgic gameplay elements that come with it.

This move by PUBG towards its popular rival, Fortnite, is not the first. Recently, PUBG introduced destructible terrain, a feature that brings it closer to the build-and-destroy loop of Fortnite. It seems that PUBG is looking to capitalize on the success of Fortnite by incorporating elements that have made it a hit among players.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ decision to bring back Erangel Classic is a bold move that aims to revitalize the game and attract players old and new. By tapping into the nostalgia of the original map and gameplay elements, PUBG is hoping to recapture the magic that made it a standout title in the battle royale genre. Only time will tell if Erangel Classic will be a success or if it will be overshadowed by other popular titles in the gaming industry.
