AMD has been making waves in the mobile processor market with their latest offerings, and gamers are particularly excited about the performance improvements promised by the new Radeon 890M GPU. With new benchmarks surfacing, it’s becoming clear that AMD’s new processors are set to bring a significant boost in performance compared to their predecessors.
The Radeon 890M is the latest integrated GPU to launch within the new AMD Ryzen AI 300-series. It boasts 16 RDNA 3.5 CUs and runs at 2,900 MHz, compared to the last-generation 780M, which only had 12 RDNA 3 CUs at 2,800 MHz. From the specs alone, it’s evident that the 890M is poised to deliver a substantial increase in performance. In recent benchmarks from GPD, the 890M outperformed the 780M by an impressive 31% in 3DMark Time Spy, putting it ahead of even discrete GPUs like the RTX 2050.
Impressive Performance Across Different Tests
The benchmarks from GPD’s latest devices showcase the capabilities of the new AMD processors. The GPD Duo, equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and the 890M, scored 4,221 in 3DMark Time Spy at 54W, demonstrating the GPU’s prowess. This performance surpassed not only the 780M but also came close to matching the performance of an RTX 3050 at 50W. Additionally, in a test on the ROG Ally with the 780M, the 890M showed a 33% increase in performance, highlighting its significant improvement over the previous generation.
In addition to the enhanced GPU performance, the AMD Ryzen AI 300-series also comes with Zen 5 and Zen 5c cores, which are showing promising results in tests like Cinebench 2024 (R24). These cores are delivering competitive single-thread and multithread scores that rival high-end processors like the Ryzen 9 5950X, further solidifying AMD’s position in the mobile processor market.
Looking Ahead
While the initial benchmarks are promising, it’s important to note that more tests will be needed to fully evaluate the performance of the new AMD processors. With laptops featuring these chips set to launch next month, we’ll soon have a clearer picture of their capabilities. Moreover, the potential for gaming handhelds to adopt the 890M for improved performance and battery life is an exciting prospect that could further elevate AMD’s position in the mobile gaming market.
AMD’s latest mobile processors, particularly the Radeon 890M GPU, are setting a new standard for performance in the mobile processor industry. With significant improvements over the previous generation and impressive benchmark results, AMD is poised to make a strong impact with their new lineup. Gamers and tech enthusiasts alike should keep an eye out for laptops featuring these processors, as they promise to deliver unparalleled performance and efficiency.
