Recently, there have been rumors circulating about two new graphics cards from AMD: the Radeon RX 7400 and RX 7300. While details are scarce, the possibility of more affordable cards under $260 is an exciting prospect. These new additions would bring a fresh perspective to the GPU market, especially in a generation that many believed was already complete.
The speculation is that the RX 7400 and RX 7300 would utilize the Navi 33 GPU, which is also found in the RX 7600 XT. This GPU configuration offers a maximum of 2,048 cores with a 128-bit bus. However, it is expected that the RX 7400 and RX 7300 would have fewer cores than their predecessors, given the full core count utilization in the RX 7600 XT and RX 7600.
With the only competition in this segment being AMD’s RX 6000-series with relatively low core counts, the RX 7400 and RX 7300 could introduce smaller GPUs with a slim memory bus. Despite the shift from RDNA 2 to RDNA 3 architecture being a noteworthy improvement, AMD might face price limitations. The RX 7600 is currently priced at $269, with expectations that the RX 7400 and RX 7300 could be priced below $200. While this may not seem significant to some, having more discrete options at a lower price point can be advantageous.
In a market where integrated GPUs are becoming increasingly impressive, thanks to offerings like the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen AI 300-series ‘Strix Point’ chips, recommending a super-budget GPU becomes challenging. For individuals seeking discrete GPUs, options with 768 or 512 cores from the RDNA 3 architecture are available with desktop APUs. Additionally, the HX 370 Radeon 890M GPU, designed for laptops, could potentially be adapted for desktop APUs in the future, providing more choices for consumers on a tight budget.
While the arrival of the RX 7400 and RX 7300 remains speculative, the potential for affordable and capable graphics cards from AMD is promising. These new additions could provide consumers with more budget-friendly options without compromising on performance. As the market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how AMD positions itself in the budget GPU segment and how it caters to the diverse needs of consumers.
