After Microsoft officially disbanded Arkane Austin, the future of Redfall seemed uncertain. However, the team behind the game announced on Twitter that they are still working on Game Update 4. This update is expected to include an offline mode, single player pausing, revamped Neighbourhood and Nest systems, and more exciting features that will be revealed soon. While there is no firm release date set for this update, Arkane has promised to share new details in the near future.
One of the most anticipated features of the upcoming update is the offline mode. Players have been calling for Redfall to be playable as a single player game without the need for an online connection. Currently, the game can be played solo, but players still need to be connected online to access it. With the closure of Arkane Austin, concerns arose about the future of the game’s servers and the possibility of them shutting down, making the game unplayable. The announcement of the offline mode addresses these concerns and ensures that Redfall will remain playable even if its servers are discontinued in the future.
Arkane Austin was abruptly shut down by Microsoft in early May 2024. Despite this, a skeleton crew is still working on the final update for Redfall to “future proof” the game. This update will allow the game to run as a single player experience without the need for active servers. It is important to note that this will be the definitive final update for Redfall, with no additional updates planned for the future. Once the project is complete, the team currently working on the game will likely be reassigned to other Microsoft-owned studios.
Unfortunately, the closure of Arkane Austin has led to the cancellation of Redfall’s previously announced roadmap. This means that the two new heroes planned for the game, each with their own unique powers and gameplay, as well as other DLC additions, will not be released as initially promised. In response to this, Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, has promised “make-good offers” to players who purchased the Redfall Bite Back Edition, which included a special Hero Pass. Those eligible for the offer can apply on the Bethesda website. As for new content and updates, players will have to wait and see when the final Redfall update will be launched.
While the disbandment of Arkane Austin has brought changes to the plans for Redfall, the dedicated team still working on the game is committed to delivering a final update that will ensure the game remains playable even without active servers. Players can look forward to the exciting new features and improvements that will be introduced in Game Update 4. Despite the challenges faced by Redfall, the future of the game seems to be in good hands, and fans can continue to enjoy the vampire-hunting action in a single player experience.
