The year 2024 is set to be a monumental one for fans of the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog franchise. With the recent premiere of the Knuckles miniseries on Paramount+ and the upcoming release of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 in theaters during the holiday season, excitement is at an all-time high. However, according to an interview with GamesRadar+, it seems that there may be even more in store for Sega’s beloved characters. Knuckles showrunner and executive producer, Toby Ascher, hinted at the possibility of additional Sonic spin-offs in the future. Ascher mentioned, “We have a really good plan for the future of Sonic. As we grow these characters, what television has provided us with Knuckles is a moment to do a deep-dive character study into them. As we find stories we’re excited about, we’re going to hopefully continue to do this again.”

Who Could Be Next in Line?

Speculation is rife that Shadow the Hedgehog could be the next character to receive their own show. Given his live-action debut in the mid-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and his significant role in the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Shadow seems like the logical choice. Adding to the excitement, Keanu Reeves is set to provide the voice of Shadow in the forthcoming film. While Shadow appears to be a frontrunner, other potential candidates for spin-off shows include Rouge the Bat, Amy Rose, Blaze the Cat, or even Metal Sonic. However, it may still be a while before these characters make their debut in the live-action franchise.

What Lies Ahead

With Sonic The Hedgehog 3 set to hit theaters on December 20th and Knuckles currently available for streaming on Paramount+, the future looks bright for the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise. Ascher’s comments hint at a strategic approach to expanding the universe and delving deeper into the rich tapestry of characters that fans have come to love over the years. With new spin-offs potentially on the horizon, there is plenty for fans to look forward to in the coming years. Only time will tell what other surprises Sega has in store for Sonic and his friends.
