Nintendo has expanded its roster of classic games available on the Nintendo Switch Online service by introducing three new Game Boy titles. The highlight of this batch is the iconic Super Mario Land, a game that has finally made its way to the service after being conspicuously absent for some time. Unlike other Super Mario games developed by Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Land takes players on a journey with the plumber through the peculiar Sarasaland to rescue Princess Daisy from the alien invader Tatanga. Alongside Super Mario Land, subscribers can now enjoy two other Game Boy launch titles: Alleyway and Baseball. Alleyway is a Breakout-style game where players must maneuver a panel to deflect a ball and demolish grids, while Baseball is a simple sports game with support for two players.
These new Game Boy titles are part of the Nintendo Switch Online’s Game Boy library, which is included with the base subscription. Individual memberships are priced at $4 USD for a month, $8 USD for three months, and $20 USD for a year. For those with multiple systems and accounts, there’s an annual family plan available for $35 USD, covering up to eight Nintendo Accounts. However, users can opt for the premium “Expansion Pack” tier, which offers additional benefits such as access to classic Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance games, Sega Genesis titles, and some Nintendo Switch DLC. Expansion Pack subscribers received two more N64 games in April, as well as the Game Boy Advance launch title F-Zero: Maximum Velocity in March.
Nintendo recently teased an upcoming Nintendo Direct scheduled for June. However, President Shuntaro Furukawa made it clear that the broadcast will not feature any updates on the highly anticipated Switch successor. Despite this clarification, fans are eagerly anticipating what other exciting announcements and reveals Nintendo might have in store for them during the upcoming Direct presentation.
Nintendo continues to enhance the gaming experience for its loyal subscribers by regularly adding new titles to the Nintendo Switch Online service. The addition of these classic Game Boy games not only brings a sense of nostalgia but also introduces a new generation of players to timeless gems from the past. Whether you are a fan of retro gaming or just looking to broaden your gaming horizons, Nintendo Switch Online’s expanding library offers something for everyone to enjoy.
