The iconic character Heihachi Mishima from the Tekken series is set to make a comeback as the next DLC character in Tekken 8. Known for his mustache and malevolent personality, Heihachi was last seen being thrown into a volcano by his son Kazuya. In the world of Tekken, such extreme events are like a family prank, as characters often come back from seemingly fatal situations. Despite this, it is a bit surprising to see Heihachi returning so soon, considering the dramatic nature of his exit in the previous installment.
As the third DLC character in Tekken 8, Heihachi is expected to be available sometime in the autumn, although an exact release date has not been confirmed yet. He follows the addition of Eddy Gordo and Lydia Sobieska as DLC characters, both of whom brought a unique fighting style to the game. The trailer for Heihachi’s return also teases an extra story chapter where he trains hench monks in unconventional fighting techniques, adding a humorous touch to the character’s storyline.
While the base game of Tekken 8 features “character episodes” for each playable character, the DLC characters like Eddy and Lydia do not have a dedicated episode. However, the additional story chapter featuring Heihachi will be available to all players for free, regardless of whether they purchase the DLC characters. This expansion of the story mode adds depth to Heihachi’s character and provides more context for his role in the game’s narrative.
Despite the return of Heihachi Mishima, fans of other characters like Miguel or Josie may be disappointed as they are not included in the current lineup of DLC characters. It is uncertain whether these relative “C-listers” will be added to the game in the future, especially with popular characters like Marduk, Lucky Chloe, and Armor King still missing from the roster. Players will have to wait and see if their favorite fighters will make an appearance in upcoming updates or DLC releases.
The announcement of Heihachi’s return was made at the fighting game tournament EVO 2024, where the Tekken 8 finals showcased intense matches between top players. The introduction of the game’s new Heat meter mechanic added another layer of strategy to the gameplay, making matches even more thrilling and competitive. With the addition of Heihachi and the promise of more story content, Tekken 8 continues to evolve and expand its roster of characters and features.
